The Liverpool talisman has been singing Elliott’s praises since the Villa move

As Harvey Elliott joins Aston Villa from Liverpool his former Anfield teammate, Mo Salah has been full of praise for the youngster. Last season’s Premier League top scorer says Villa are ‘lucky to have’ the 22-year old.

Elliott joined The Villans on a season-long loan on Deadline Day, with an obligation to buy. Next season, the agreed permanent transfer will cost them around £35m. The Englishman wasn’t the only late addition to the Villa squad, as Unai Emery also signed Manchester United’s Jadon Sancho on loan, as well as Victor Lindelof on a permanent deal.

It’s been a disastrous start to the season for Villa, as they are the only team in the Premier League yet to score a goal, however Emery will be hoping the new man can be the creative spark they’re crying out for. If Mo Salah’s comments are anything to go by, the Midlands giants have signed an absolute gem.

Mo Salah says Harvey Elliot is set for ‘big things’

Liverpool superstar, Mo Salah had some heartfelt words to say about Elliott following his move to Villa. Speaking on X, the Egyptian said: “You’ll be remembered for your loyalty and dedication every time you were called upon. You leave as a champion, and I’ve got no doubt you’ll do big things at your new club. They are lucky to have you.”

Since signing from Fulham back in 2019, Elliott won a Premier League title, two EFL Cups and a FIFA Club World Cup with Liverpool. Despite being deployed mostly from the bench, he was a reliable figure for The Reds, who was trusted to come on and make a difference on numerous occasions by his manager, whether it be Arne Slot or Jurgen Klopp.

In 2019, at 16-years old and 30 days, Elliott at the time was the youngest player ever to make a Premier League appearance. This in itself gave the youngster the ‘wonderkid’ tagline, already putting very high expectations on teenage shoulders. Still only 22, Villa are signing their man at just the right time, as he has the perfect mix of trophy winning experience and future potential.

Harvey Elliott excited for ‘a new challenge’ at Villa Park

In his farewell bid to Liverpool fans, Elliott took to Instagram to say: “Thank you to everybody at the club for welcoming me from the very first day I arrived and for looking after me ever since. Thank you to the board and Jurgen Klopp for helping me live my dream of becoming a Liverpool player. To Arne Slot, all of the coaches and staff who have helped me along the way and of course my teammates. It’s been a privilege to play with you all and I feel lucky to have made so many lifelong friends along the way.

“To the incredible Liverpool fans. Thank you for making me one of your own and for always supporting me through both good and tough times. I’ll always cherish the bond we have together. I will always have Liverpool in my heart.

“It’s now time for a new challenge. I am incredibly ambitious and feel that at this stage of my career it’s important to be in an environment where I’m able to have the opportunity to play and progress as much as possible. Thank you all for everything. See you soon!”
