Newcastle United have completed the signing of Chelsea goalkeeper Femke Liefting on a season-long loan deal.
WSL Full-Time were informed of the news via an official club press release from The Magpies this evening.
The 20-year-old stopper joined Chelsea from Dutch Eurojackpot Vrouwen Eredivisie club AZ Alkmaar back in January and she signed a three-and-a-half-year deal with The Blues. Liefting is very much one for the future at the South London club. Liefting’s progress at Chelsea last season was hindered by a foot injury.
The youngster started her senior career with VV Alkmaar before making the move to neighbours AZ in 2023.
On the international stage, Liefting has represented The Netherlands at various youth levels up to and including Under-20 level.
After joining Newcastle United on loan, Liefting said “I’m really excited and can’t wait to join this amazing club.
“The ambitions and the first impression of the club have been great. I have the feeling that I can develop here well as a player and a person.”
Liefting will compete for Newcastle United’s first-choice goalkeeping jersey alongside Claudia Moan and Hannah Hawkins. The youngster could be involved when The Magpies travel to Nottingham Forest for their Barclays WSL2 season-opener on Sunday afternoon.
