Manchester City Full-Back Joins Sunderland on Loan

Manchester City’s Tara O’Hanlon will spend the first half of the upcoming season on loan at Sunderland. O’Hanlon signed for City in January 2024 from Peamount United, where she played a key role in securing the League of Ireland title in 2023 and also made her senior debut for the national team.

After an impressive pre-season under new head coach Andrée Jeglertz, O’Hanlon now heads to Sunderland to continue her development.

Manchester City have announced the contract extension of Yui Hasegawa until 2029. The midfielder joined the club in September 2022 from West Ham United.

Across three seasons with City, she has missed only four matches, taking her appearance tally close to 100 in rapid fashion. The Japan international has contributed two goals and eight assists in all competitions. She was shortlisted for the Ballon d’Or in both 2023 and 2024, and was also named the 2024/25 Etihad Player of the Season by supporters.

Hasegawa is expected to feature in a more advanced role this WSL season, as she did in the final months of last year. With the arrival of Sydney Lohmann, that tactical shift could become a regular feature.

What Yui Hasegawa had to say

“I’m very happy to have signed my contract extension, I’m so excited. I’m so excited because we can win the title this season. Because we have great players and a good football style so I hope this season will be good.

“I really want to win the title at this club and there are players I want to play with. This is one of the biggest reasons [why I wanted] to stay here.”
