Young Chelsea Goalkeeper Goes Out on Loan to Newcastle United

Chelsea’s Femke Liefting will spend the [2025/26 season](https://womenfootball.blog/womens-super-league-table-standings/) on loan at Newcastle United. The young Dutch goalkeeper signed for the Blues in January 2025 from AZ Alkmaar. Shortly after joining, Liefting suffered a foot injury and was unable to make any appearances for Chelsea. Now fully fit, she heads to Newcastle to continue her development under head coach Becky Langley.

**On joining the Magpies, Femke Liefting said**: “I’m really excited and can’t wait to join this amazing club. The ambitions and the first impression of the club have been great. I have the feeling that I can develop here well as a player and a person.”

On the international stage, Liefting has come through the youth ranks with the Netherlands. She won the Golden Glove at the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup last summer and received her first senior call-up in October.

“Femke is one of the brightest prospects in European football. She has experienced playing in the Eredivisie Vrouwen and understands what it takes to win from her time so far at Chelsea. She has the ability to play out from the back and adds further strength to our goalkeeping department.”

Upon signing, Oona Sevenius said: “I’m really excited, and it’s great to be here. I just can’t wait to get started. I have a strong willingness to make a difference, I want to win more than anything, and I’m always working very hard.

“This is a very historic club, a great shirt to wear, and I’m very happy to now have it on. I want to get used to this beautiful city and can’t wait to get the season started because the games are what it’s all about.”
