The New York Giants already love Jaxson Dart, their new quarterback, and the rest of the NFL is starting to take notice.

The New York Giants are entering what will be a huge 2025-26 season for them, and pretty much everyone in the Big Apple is waiting and hoping for a comeback season for the franchise. The team has already looked really good in the preseason, and even though it’s just the preseason, it sure feels good to see this team doing well.

This year, the New York Giants have a totally new quarterback roster, and it features veteran Russell Wilson, veteran Jameis Winston and rookie Jaxson Dart. While Wilson is a championship-winning quarterback and has been getting attention for making the move to New York, Dart is the player who’s really being showered with praise as the first game of the season approaches.

The Giants will kick off their regular season on Sunday, September 7, against the Washington Commanders. Dart likely won’t appear in that game, and he certainly won’t start, but it’s only a matter of time before he does take the field, because he really seems ready.

New York Giants Rookie Jaxson Dart is One of the Best Rookies in the NFL

Dart has been super impressive in practices and during preseason games, and he’s a solid representation of the franchise. He already seems to be taking his role with the team in stride and representing the franchise well.

He has caught the attention of Chris Trapasso of CBS Sports, who names Dart as the top quarterback in the rookie class for this season.

“Dart was sensational in all three exhibition contests operating Brian Daboll’s offense,” he notes in the September 1 piece. “The third quarterback picked in the 2025 draft completed 68% of his 47 attempts with three touchdowns and no interceptions while averaging a hefty 7.9 yards per attempt. Beyond the numbers, the blend of quarterbacking style Dart demonstrated was so impressive.”

Trapasso adds, “He diced from inside the confines of the pocket. He scrambled a bit. He got the ball out quickly, and made a few high-caliber throws downfield.”

More Attention Towards Jaxson Dart of the New York Giants

There’s more praise for Dart, too. In a Sunday, August 24 feature for FanSided, Wynston Wilcox says that Dart’s stock has gone up since his stellar preseason debut.

“Everybody questioned the New York Giants for trading back into the first round to select Jaxson Dart, but after the preseason, it seems like a brilliant move,” he stated in the piece. “He’s probably the only other rookie quarterback that could have outplayed Ward in the preseason. Dart finished 32-for-47 with 352 yards, three touchdowns and no interceptions.”

Wilcox adds that New York is likely “thrilled” to get Dart. “While he may not start a single game this year, Giants fans have to be optimistic about their future,” he said. “Russell Wilson is a rental, who’s only job is to buy Brian Daboll and Joe Schoen at least one more year. Dart is what’s going to save this team from mediocrity.”

Wilcox adds that while “Ward and Dart were first-round selections,” for “a thin quarterback class, talent wise, these two have made it clear they’re NFL ready and the most ready of any other quarterback selected. When it’s time for Dart to take over, don’t be surprised when he elevates this Giants team.”

So, it’s really just not a matter of if by when will Dart take the field. Between Wilson and Dart, the Giants are looking good on quarterbacks this season.
