NE Ohio forecast: Windy Friday, cooler weekend for Browns season opener

CLEVELAND, Ohio — After Thursday morning’s much-needed rain, Northeast Ohio can expect a break in precipitation for much of Friday before another cold front moves through to close out the week.

That cold front will set the stage for another weekend of below-average temperatures, bringing fall-like conditions for Sunday’s Browns season opener.

Dry air will filter in behind Thursday’s system, keeping most of the region rain-free into the day on Friday. A warm front will help temperatures rebound into the mid 70s — a noticeable jump from Thursday’s mid 60s.

Winds also will pick up on Friday, with gusts close to 25 mph possible in the afternoon as a developing low pressure system strengthens to the west.

By Friday night, showers and a few thunderstorms may pop up along the incoming cold front, especially east of the Interstate 71 corridor, according to forecasters with the National Weather Service in Cleveland.

While widespread severe weather isn’t expected, especially along the lakeshore, a few storms could produce gusty winds before the front clears the area by late Friday night.

The weekend starts on a dry note for most of Northeast Ohio, though cooler air will settle in once again.

High temperatures on both Saturday and Sunday will stay in the mid 60s, with lows dipping into the 40s at night.

Sunday’s Browns season opener will bring classic fall weather. Temperatures at kickoff will be in the low 60s under a mix of sun and lake-effect clouds. While there’s a slim chance a stray shower could reach Cleveland, most of the lake-effect activity should stay east of the city.

Warming back up next week

With high pressure expected to build in to start the new week, Northeast Ohio will return to the warm, dry pattern last seen in August.

High temperatures will climb from the 60s Monday into the 70s by midweek. By the end of the week, the region might even see highs in the low 80s.
