Everton striker Beto reveals the one aspect of his game David Moyes is desperate for him to…

Beto’s Everton career got off to a really slow start when Sean Dyche signed him from Udinese.

The Toffees shelled out around £30m on Beto’s signature during the summer of 2023, and for the first 18 months of his career on Merseyside, he was considered a flop.

But when David Moyes replaced Dyche in January, the towering Everton frontman kicked on and started to fire in the goals.

Beto netted seven times in 14 starts towards the end of the 2024/25 campaign, and he’s already got a couple this year.

However, despite significantly improving his output, there is still one aspect of his game that Moyes is desperate for him to improve.

What David Moyes wants Beto to improve on

Speaking to Evertontv after the win at Wolves on the weekend, Beto revealed that Moyes is always pushing him to improve hold-up play.

“He’s a good man,” the 27-year-old said.

“He’s a good person and he’s always trying to push me, you know? Sometimes he jokes around, ‘Beto, you can’t do this, you can’t do that.’

“But he’s always trying to push me, and when I do something bad, he says, ‘You need to be tidy, holding the ball — set.’

“I know that I need to improve that, but he knows too, so it’s good to have him on my side.”

Moyes has been impressed with Beto’s desire to learn: “Let me tell you, he is an unbelievable lad. In training, he is very humble, self-effacing, he’s happy to laugh at himself, but to try and make himself better.

“So for all those reasons we think so much of him, because in what he’s doing he’s actually accepting that ‘I have to get better’. And let’s be fair, probably from where he started he has got unbelievably better from where he was.”

Beto wants to get more tap-in goals

Beto couldn’t have had an easier finish for his goal against Wolves, but his movement was the impressive part.

“My favourite goals are tap-ins and these kinds of goals,” Beto said after the win at Molineux.

“It’s so difficult to have these type of goals, but I think this season, if I’m more alive, I need to believe that the ball will arrive – and it will arrive.

“It’s something unbelievable… you don’t want to let them down.” 💙

“I told Jack (Grealish) at the beginning of the game, I said, ‘Give me one today.’ And five minutes passed, he gave it to me, so it was perfect.”

With more creativity on the flanks in Grealish and Tyler Dibling when he gets going, Beto will be getting a lot more service and should be aiming for double figures in the Premier League.
