Clinton reflects on ‘surreal’ Euros success

Grace Clinton says the reality of winning the 2025 Euros with England is yet to feel real.

The battling midfielder has today joined Manchester City on a four-year deal which will keep her at the Joie Stadium until the summer of 2029.

It follows the 22-year-old’s role in the Lionesses’ triumphant summer where they retained their European crown and became the first senior England side to win a major tournament on foreign soil.

Across the tournament held in Switzerland she made five appearances for Sarina Wiegman’s side including an outing in the closing stages of the final victory over Spain on penalties.

And Clinton hopes the reverberations of the success will further grow the game domestically in the United Kingdom and around the world.

“It was amazing. It still hasn’t sunk in, it was so surreal,” she declared.

“Obviously you get away for a little bit then you’re back to the routine of things and back to football so I don’t think it’s properly sunk in, but it was amazing.

“I couldn’t believe it when we did it but I’m so proud of all the girls and what we achieved and for me, it’s another summer of learning and growing.

“Being on those big stages is where you want to be so I was very grateful for the opportunity.

“It’s massive, it’s massive for the sport. After the last Euros win it just skyrocketed and I’m hoping it does the same again.

“You see little girls coming to the games, but now it’s little girls and boys and I think that’s special to see.

“But I’m hoping it encourages more young girls and boys to play football and bring more investment into the women’s game especially and helps us grow.”
