On August 25,a report from ESPN revealed, citing a source, that Las Vegas Raiders starting wide receiver Jakobi Meyers, who is entering the final year of his contract, has requested a trade.

The Raiders and Meyers still haven’t agreed on a new contract, but Las Vegas has no intention of moving on from him. Nonetheless, as the 2025 season progresses, the front office will harden or soften its stance on Meyer.

If the Silver and Black decide to trade him by the November 5 trade deadline,Bleacher Report’s Kristopher Knox put his trade big board in a September 3 article and listed Meyers as one of the top 10 names that could be moved. Moreover, he has the Cleveland Browns as a landing spot with a 2026 4th-Round Pick as compensation.

Is It Time for the Raiders to Move on From Jakobi Meyers?

Besides Meyers wanting a more lucrative contract, Knox believes now is the time to secure compensation for the player. Moreover, the Raiders have promising players at receiver, and moving Meyers, along with the retirement of Amari Cooper, could allow for these rookies to garner a prominent role.

“The reality is that Meyers, who is in a contract year, is likely nearing the end of his Las Vegas tenure,” Knox wrote. “The Raiders just used a second-round pick on his likely replacement, Jack Bech. With fellow rookie Dont’e Thornton Jr. already in the starting lineup, moving Meyers and getting both rookies on the field could make sense.

“Meyers may not command as much as [Jauan] Jennings because of his $10.5 million base salary. However, the Raiders could expect a reasonable return for a 28-year-old pass-catcher coming off a 1,000-yard season. There is no shortage of NFL teams that could afford to strengthen their receiving corps, which is a big reason why Meyers tops our board.”

Jakobi Meyers Breaks Silence on Contract Demand

On September 3, Meyers, who had 87 catches for 1,027 yards and four touchdowns for the Raiders last season, spoke with the media and shared the details on what transpired between him and Las Vegas.

“I asked; they said no,” Meyers said (h/tPro Football Talk). “That’s where that stopped. I’m just going to keep doing my job until something shakes out either way. I don’t know which way it’s going to go, but I’ll be ready for whatever.”

Moreover, it didn’t sound like Meyers wasall too happy with how the situation didn’t play out in his favor.

“I really don’t know where it’s going to go, but I’m ready,” Meyersadded. “I’m ready to go if you want me to go. I’m ready to play if they want me to play… Am I happy?” Meyers asked rhetorically. “It’s a job. I’m happy to be doing my job with my boys, but I could be happy anywhere.”

Meyers likely won’t be satisfied without an extension, whetherit comes from the Raiders or another team. For now, he said, everyone will “find out together” what his future looks like. Could a trade happen down the road,or will winning bring happiness?
