Jaguars' Trevor Lawrence (rightly) suffers massive tumble in QB power rankings

Things haven't played out the way the Jacksonville Jaguars envisioned when they drafted Trevor Lawrence first overall in 2021. Although the former Clemson Tiger has played at a high level at times during his four-year career, he's not done it consistently enough to join the top echelon of NFL quarterbacks.

Not surprisingly, Lawrence's stock is at an all-time low ahead of the 2025 season. And a recent quarterback rankings reflect just that.

Jaguars' Trevor Lawrence dropped out of the top 20 of NFL Media's QB ranking

Nick Shook of NFL Media ranked all starting quarterbacks ahead of Week 1 and placed Trevor Lawrence at No. 22, arguing that he needs to show he can stay healthy a whole season. Here's the skinny.

"Like Tagovailoa, Trevor Lawrence needs to prove he can make it through a full season -- and truly needs to get back on track as a passer many thought was a generational talent when he entered the NFL," Shook said.

In case you were wondering, Shook placed rival AFC South quarterback C.J. Stroud at No. 9. Meanwhile, rookie Cam Ward (Tennessee Titans) was ranked 28th, and (Indianapolis Colts) Daniel Jones popped up at No. 31.

The Jaguars will help Trevor Lawrence rebound (and move up in QB rankings)

Nick Shook is right when he says Trevor Lawrence must prove he can play a full season. You could argue that he played at a top-10 level in 2022, but that was three years ago, which is eons in the NFL. You could also point out that he's dealt with injuries the past two seasons, but if you want to make an impact in the NFL, you must show you can stay healthy.

The silver lining is that Lawrence is landed in the 15-19 range in other rankings, showing that confidence in him hasn't fully wavered. For instance, Steve Ruiz of The Ringer ranked him 15th, noting that the Knoxville, Tennessee native still has the tools and talent that earned him the generational-talent moniker.

Similarly, Nate Tice of Yahoo! Sports gave Lawrence the eighth spot in his rankings because he believes he'll bounce back under head coach Liam Coen. And he's not wrong.

Coen has worked one-on-one with Lawrence to fix his mechanics and do a better job of going through his progressions. The work the duo has put in the past few months was evident in the preseason. Couple that with the fact that No. 16 has what's arguably the best support his had in his NFL career, and it's easy to see him play like a top-10 quarterback and rise up in rankings.

Ultimately, Trevor Lawrence will need to win football games to prove he's deserving of a better spot in quarterback rankings, but based on how everything's quickly unfolding, nobody should bat an eye if he surges.
