Former Dallas Cowboys Pro Bowl wide receiver retires from NFL

Former Dallas Cowboys wide receiver Amari Cooper announced his retirement Thursday, which came after he signed a one-year deal with the Las Vegas Raiders in late August.

Cooper’s retirement caps a 10-year NFL career that included five Pro Bowls, two of which came with the Cowboys in 2018 and 2019.

Cooper played more games for the Cowboys than any other team in his career, finishing with 292 catches for 3,893 yards with 27 touchdowns in four seasons.

The Cowboys traded the Alabama product to the Cleveland Browns before the 2022 NFL season for a fifth-round pick and a sixth-round pick swap in the 2022 NFL draft. Cooper played for the Buffalo Bills last season.

Cooper started his career with the then-Oakland Raiders, who drafted him with the fourth overall pick in 2015. He played four seasons there until being traded to the Cowboys during the 2018 season.

He also follows in Michael Gallup’s footsteps as the second Cowboys wide receiver in as many years to sign with the Raiders in the offseason but retire before the season begins.

For his career, Cooper caught 711 passes for 10,033 yards and 64 touchdowns.
