Patriots have hands full with game-wrecker Maxx Crosby

FOXBOROUGH - Patriots offensive line coach Doug Marrone thinks he has a pretty good idea where the Raiders will line up human game-wrecker Maxx Crosby on Sunday.

But given it’s the first game, it’s tough to know for sure.

In either case, Marrone knows his tackles are going to be up against it trying to fend off the Raiders edge rusher.

“I’ve obviously gone up against him a ton of times,” said the well-travelled Marrone. “He’s an outstanding player. We have to do a good job preparing for him.”

Depending on which side Crosby lines up, rookie left tackle Will Campbell and veteran right tackle Morgan Moses will draw the assignment, and likely have some help either from a running back, or tight end.

“The thing you have to question is, ‘Where he is gonna be?’ It’s Week 1 so you really don’t know what the plan is,” Marrone said of Crosby, who is listed as a left defensive end. “You just have to make sure the details, and techniques and fundamentals, everybody has to know and be prepared to go up against him.”

Campbell has shown to be a very good run blocker in the early going. He’s still working to become better in pass protection. If Crosby is lined up on his side, it’s a pretty good bet the rookie will have help trying to fend off the Raiders pass rusher.

Marrone praised Campbell for his willingness to listen and learn from the coaching staff as well as the players.

Said Marrone: “Will has done an outstanding job of listening to the veterans around him, and not just on one side of the football but on both sides of the football.”
