CONFIRMED: Man United Star Withdraws From International Duty As Amorim Is Dealt New Blow Ahead Of The Derby

**Portugal haver confirmed that Man United fullback Diogo Dalot has withdrawn from Roberto Martinez’s squad.**

The 26-year-old was selected for his country’s [**games against Armenia and Hungary**](https://manunews.com/blog/man-united-news-players-call-up-for-international-duty-man-city/), but the Football Federation has confirmed that he has dropped out due to a muscular injury:

“Full-back Nuno Tavares was called up to the National Senior squad this Thursday to replace Diogo Dalot.”

“The international, who plays for Manchester United, complained of muscle discomfort and was released by the Health and Performance Unit.”

Will Dalot be fit for the Manchester derby?

-------------------------------------------

At the moment, it is not known how serious the injury is. Considering Portugal are playing World Cup qualifiers, it is unlikely that Dalot was withdrawn as a precaution.

The defender did start and play the full 90 minutes against Burnley last Saturday, and there was no suggestion from head coach Ruben Amorim that he had picked up an issue.

Matheus Cunha and Mason Mount were substituted due to injuries during the match, and Dalot has now joined them on a treatment table. The trio are all doubts to face Manchester City on Sunday week.

Man United have a ready-made replacement

----------------------------------------

Dalot only started against Burnley after Amorim decided to drop Patrick Dorgu from the lineup. The Dane has struggled since joining from Lecce last January, and he didn’t impress when the Red Devils were knocked out of the Carabao Cup by fourth-tier Grimsby Town.

Even so, if Dalot is forced to miss the derby, it is more than likely that Dorgu will be recalled. Amorim could start Luke Shaw or the fit-again Noussair Mazraoui but it is doubtful either could last the full 90 against City at wingback, considering their recent injury history.

As we haven’t had a prognosis for Dalot yet, though, there is still a chance that the Portuguese international could be available for the trip to the Etihad.
