Eagles fever was on full display for Thursday's season opener, as fans came from all over to cheer on the Birds.

PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) -- Eagles fever was on full display for Thursday's season opener: from a giant Eagles flag at the top of the Philadelphia Museum of Art steps to banners along Broad Street.

The city was abuzz with excitement as the Eagles got ready to face the Dallas Cowboys for the season-opening game.

"It's a great day to be alive in Philly," said Eagles fan Bethany Day, who drove to Philadelphia from Pensacola Florida, with her husband to go to the game.

Fans hit the Eagles Pro Shop at Lincoln Financial Field, lining up for gear to wear to the game.

"It's great, it brings us all together and it's fun," said Anna Simms Alexander as she stood in the line with her brother, two sisters and mom and dad.

Eagles fan Robert Clark came to Philadelphia from Las Vegas, Nevada. He said being able to go to Thursday night's game is a highlight of his life. Really.

"Besides when my son was born, I might cry tonight," he said. "I'm just saying. I'm gonna throw that out there. I might cry tonight."

Some fans may want to shed a tear when they find out the cost of going to the game. Stub Hub estimated the average price of a ticket, as of Thursday afternoon, was $708. That's 21% higher than last year's Eagles season opener.

"It cost a pretty penny," said d Aaron Johnson of Memphis, TN. "I had to save up a little bit."

Fans, though, know you can't put a price on good trash talk.

"We're gonna kill the cowgirls," said Anneka Simms Alexander, making fun of the Dallas Cowboys' mascot. Her son followed his mom's lead.

"I feel great dropping the banner in front of Jerry Jones' face," said Jackson Simms Alexander. "He needs to see what greatness looks like in the 21st century."

With so many fans coming from across the country for the game, it begs the question: are the Eagles - not the Cowboys - are the new so-called "America's Team?"

Day thinks they are... and said as much in her wedding.

"In our wedding vows, I told (my husband) I would support his Eagles for the rest of our life," she said.

Plenty of Eagles flags were flying on Thursday at homes in South Philadelphia as some fans planned to settle in for the game.

"I feel great, I can't wait to get home, make my wings and watch the game by myself," said Nicholla Anderson of South Philadelphia.

Others plan to be in great company with some great accessories-- including the company that makes those famous giant Eagles hats.

Gabe Cooper, the owner of Noggin Boss, was at the pro shop at Lincoln Financial Field re-stocking the popular hats, which count Gillie da Kid among its famous fans.

"The Gillie dance went viral," said Cooper who flew in from Phoenix, "and you want to rep what you're passionate about so let's go Birds!"
