The 2025 NFL Kickoff Game on Thursday night has been delayed due to inclement weather.
With lightning in the area, the Dallas Cowboys-Philadelphia Eagles season opener at Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia has been suspended with 4:44 remaining in the third quarter and the Eagles leading, 24-20. The game's restart time is to be determined. Per the NBC broadcast, the game wasn't expected to be restarted prior to 11:30 p.m. ET.
Fans were instructed to shelter in place away from open seating areas and players left to the locker room.
Rain started prior to kickoff but lightning strikes didn't follow until the third quarter, leading to the delay.
This is the second consecutive year in which the Kickoff Game has been delayed. In 2024, the onset of the game between the Baltimore Ravens and Kansas City Chiefs was postponed, as well, due to lightning in the area.
The Eagles currently have possession of the ball following a fumble recovery by Quinyon Mitchell.
When play commences, Philadelphia will face first and 10 on the Eagles 10-yard line.
