Foley 'inspirational' and praise for 'pivot' Francis: Pinto

The Bournemouth director of football operations spoke to Sky Sports and was asked what makes the club’s recruitment so good and work so well.

He explained: “I would say that it's the peaceful environment in our recruitment.

“What this means is we have a lot of information, we have a data department we have 10, 12 scouts spread everywhere that they do their reports about the players.

“We go very, very deep regarding to the social behaviours, personal references, injuries. We try to get all the information about the players.

"But then I think the most important thing when I speak about this peaceful environment is the relationship between these departments, between this information and the team in itself.

“So Simon Francis is the most important person in this process because he's the one that not only collects and leave all this information from the recruitment side, but he's the person that I think is more prepared to understand what Andoni [Iraola]’s demands are.

“Because we can't forget the role of the coach in all this process. Andoni is a top coach to work with.

“So to try to make the long story short, I think Simon for us works a little bit like the pivot, the engine of this process where our guys outside the scouts, the data, they collect information, we trust them, they are in the field, they understand a lot about the players.

“But then we have a coach that we love, that we believe, that is very clear about the kind of things that he needs in his team. And Simon is the guy that helped me a lot to bridge all these areas, make the right choices.

“Sometimes we can't do it all, but I think we are in a very peaceful and positive environment that help us to make decisions together. When the player goes right, like Dean [Huijsen], it was about all of us. When some player goes wrong, it's about all of us as well.”

Foley also takes an active interest in the club’s recruitment.

Pinto described the Bournemouth chairman as ‘inspirational’ in making sure ‘everyone does the right thing’.

“He calls us everyday, he knows and he remembers the name of all players that we mentioned to him,” Pinto said.

(Image: Richard Crease) “So sometimes me and Simon, sometimes we laugh because early in the market we speak about a player that we then forget because things change.

“And we are going through other profiles and Bill comes up saying about that player that you guys mentioned two months ago.

“So I think his vision is very clear. His ambition is something that you can almost touch because he's a very, very ambitious person. He has been investing so much time and effort and money in the club.

“But then on a daily basis, he's a person that inspires. He's a great leader and I have my experience, I’ve worked at three different clubs. I know a lot of people in the business and I never met anyone better than him.”
