It took one game for Jalen Hurts to silence critics with Superman performance

After all the noise surrounding Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts not being elite, he certainly did what he needed to do to silence that noise in the 24-20 win against the Dallas Cowboys.

It was an impressive start to the first half for Hurts as he only had two incompletions on his first 11 passes for 93 yards. His most remarkable pass was a 51-yard completion to Jahan Dotson for one of his three receptions in the game.

His rushing abilities were also on display, as he had some running lanes open on the outside, accumulating 48 yards on six carries and scoring two touchdowns. The Eagles didn't run any Tush Pushes, as it was Hurts taking advantage of the openings the Cowboys' defense gave him.

The second half was much quieter as the Eagles scored a field goal on the opening drive, but wasn't to do anything after that. Hurts was able to make the biggest play of the game with a key third and three as he picked up four yards to convert a first down on the final drive to seal the win.

Hurts' final overall numbers were completing 19 of 23 passes for 152 yards with a quarterback rating of 94.2. He added a team-high 62 rushing yards on 14 carries and two touchdowns in the win.

Evaluating Hurts' overall performance in the win against the Cowboys

Overall, the stats are going to have the haters come out in large groups looking at another less than 200-yard passing performance ready to cue up the "I told you so!" comments. The reality is the numbers don't tell the who story that Hurts had to deal with.

Hurts had more passes called, but the Cowboys' defense gave him so many opportunities to run outside the pocket that he had to take advantage of it. If he has the choice to try to force a pass or taking an opening for seven to 10 yards, he'll take the free yards.

When Hurts did throw the football, not one time was there any threat of an interception occurring. He either put it in the perfect spot for his receivers or threw the ball out of harm's way. His decision making was uncanny.

Let the haters call out Hurts for only throwing it 23 times, but he's 1-0 as a starter in 2025 and winning is the most important stat in sports.
