Manor Solomon denied Leeds United reunion as 'wise' transfer decision explained

Leeds United are off to a mixed start on their return to the Premier League, with one win, draw, and defeat apiece in their opening three fixtures.

Now, they have been afforded some time to take stock of what has happened in the league and over the course of the transfer window, all in order to determine where to go from here.

Daniel Farke was able to add several fresh faces to his promoted squad, however Leeds may come to feel that they missed out on completing all the business they had hoped as deals for Facundo Buonanotte or Harry Wilson didn't happen before the deadline.

Here, LeedsLive analyses the latest transfer headlines on Friday, September 5...

Robbie Evans explanation

Leeds managing director Robbie Evans has promised BBC Sport the club 'spent everything they could' during the summer transfer window. They were not prepared to sell players from last season's Championship-winning squad - three being Ao Tanaka, Pascal Struijk and Joel Piroe - just to boost the transfer budget early on.

"Unsurprisingly, the players that have the highest PSR profit are the ones that are most critical to our success last year and most important for our success next year," he began.

"So rather than sell them pre-emptively on the expectation of having somebody for whom that capital could be better deployed, we ticked off all of our highest-priority boxes first and foremost.

"We didn’t think it was wise to lose those players – the quality they bring, the continuity from last season, the familiarity with Daniel Farke’s strategy and his process adds a ton to our squad.

"So unless [selling them] was enabling something truly unique and differential, we’d rather have them here."

Leeds Live says: This decision may only be proven a 'wise' one deeper into the season. Either the players Leeds chose to keep will show the capability of stepping up to the greater challenge that is the Premier League, or we will be saying it was the wrong decision, they should have sold the likes of Tanaka, Struijk, Piroe, and others, so that they could bring in some proven top-flight-level players.

Manor Solomon reunion denied

TEAMtalk claim Struijk actually had a mapped out exit route from Leeds. They believe La Liga outfit Villarreal held 'concrete interest' in the defender, who has ended up staying.

Had he moved to Spain then he would actually have been reunited with Manor Solomon as of now. The winger, who scored ten goals and provided 13 assists whilst on loan at Elland Road last season, completed a deadline day switch to Villarreal.

Beforehand he had been linked with returning to Farke's team, but did not in the end.

It is another loan deal from Tottenham Hotspur, which means he could still return to the Whites in future but it is a matter that has been settle for now.

Leeds Live says: Having failed to land either Buonanotte or Wilson before Monday's deadline, not getting Solomon back on a permanent or loan basis might prove to be a mistake this season. Out of Leeds' wingers last season he looked to be the one who could step up the Premier League with relative ease.
