Aston Villa defender Matty Cash believes Unai Emery is the most detailed and intense manager he has worked under in his five years at the Birmingham-based club.
Cash hailed the Villa boss’s dedication to the beautiful game and reiterated that his attention to detail sets him apart from his previous managers.
The 28-year-old Villa right-back said (via the Daily Mail): “Sometimes when we’re on the pitch in training, and the players are looking around because the details can be a bit long.
“He shouts at us and tells us he’s been looking at it for 20 hours. It makes us switch on, but it shows how much he goes into to help us prepare for the game.
“No disrespect to Dean (Smith) and (Steven) Gerrard – they’re good in their own ways, but for that next level and to deliver the transition that Unai’s done at Villa, you have to be detailed and hard-working.”
Cash also backed Emery, who is the most successful manager in the Europa League, to lead Aston Villa to success in the competition.
This vote of confidence from the Poland international ace comes at a perfect time when they need to double down on Emery’s tactics after a difficult start to the season.
The Villans are yet to score in their first three Premier League games this season and sit in 19th place after two losses and a draw. It has been an eerie start for Emery.
Villa need to find their groove soon. Emery needs to get his team fit and firing on all cylinders ahead of a very long season.
After the international break, Villa restart their campaign with a trip to Merseyside to face in-form Everton at the Hill Dickinson Stadium.
However, Villa have a remarkable record versus the Toffees. The Villains have not lost to Everton in the league since 2016, winning nine of their 12 encounters (D3).
Historically, this is the perfect chance for Villa to get their season up and running.
