Leeds United were heavily linked with a move for Fulham’s Harry Wilson on deadline day.

With September’s international break in full swing, Leeds fans have very little to distract them from what was a very underwhelming summer transfer window.

Daniel Farke’s squad was without any incomings for the last six days of the summer, despite being linked with a move to bring Wilson to Elland Road in the final hours.

That proposed deal fell through at the very last minute, and after Wales’ mid-week result against Kazakhstan, regret will certainly be setting in

Harry Wilson showcased every attribute that Leeds need in Wales victory

Wales secured a 1-0 victory over Kazakhstan on Thursday night, with Joe Rodon absent after a minor injury scare.

Dan James and Karl Darlow both featured, as did Wilson, who, despite heavy interest from Leeds on Monday night, remained a Fulham player.

The Whites went into the window needing more firepower, and have finished the window still needing the same things, and the performance of Wilson showcased exactly why they wanted to bring him to Elland Road.

Via Fotmob, the 28-year-old created four chances on Thursday night, the most out of anyone on the pitch, with a combined xG/A of 0.54.

Wilson’s record at Fulham

150 appearances in all competitions

25 goals

33 assists

His 93 per cent pass accuracy served as a showcase of his ability on the ball, having started the game as one of the midfield three.

While his goal return may not have been the best last season, he was a constant source of creativity, and so far in the Premier League, that is what Leeds have missed.

Whether or not it was Leeds’ own doing that the transfer fell through, there will definitely be some regret about the nature of the deal that slipped through their hands.

Daniel Farke must work wonders with Leeds attack

We can sit and say just how good a signing Wilson would have been, but, at the end of the day, it’s irrelevant, as Leeds failed to bring him in.

In fact, their failure to bring in any new forwards in the latter stages of the window is going to have a massive effect on their survival ability this season.

After three games, Farke’s side have scored just once, and that arrived in the opening day win against Everton, when Lukas Nmecha dispatched a controversial penalty.

A long, long season lies ahead for the Whites.
