'No way' - Newcastle United delivered clear transfer verdict after Alexander Isak exit to…

Newcastle United closed out the transfer window the record sale of Alexander Isak and the purchase of Yoane Wissa.

Good, bad or indifferent? Everyone has got their own views on the transfer window that was from a Newcastle United perspective.

Newcastle added six first-team players in a window that swept from the disastrous to stressed to sublime almost daily. While the club let the likes of Martin Dubravka, Callum Wilson and Sean Longstaff go, the exit of Alexander Isak to Liverpool, for around £130million, overshadowed it all, and threatened to see the window turn into an abject failure. However, the late captures of Nick Woltemade and then Yoane Wissa meant even after losing the undoubted quality of Isak, they are now well-stocked in that department heading into a likely 50+ game campaign.

NUFC transfer window - good or bad?

So, we decided to ask you, the public, what you thought about the window that was. Was it a success or failure?

We took to X and Facebook with the question, ‘is NUFC stronger or weaker after the summer window?’

Here’s a selection of the answers given...

Fans have their say on the NUFC transfer window

@fewpints: "Difficult to quantify until we see what Woltemade does…"

@pmal5098: "Stronger squad. Ramsay in for Longstaff ✅ Wissa in for Wilson ✅ Good GK cover, Elanga brings depth on the right, Thiaw adds options at the back, & Woltemade could be a star. For the first time in years we’ve got 2 decent players in every position & real depth across the pitch!

@HasanZahid24: "Bet on Woltemade."

@fishscoot: "Mindset = +40%."

@Jmeister33: "Can't for the life of me understand how anyone can think we have a weaker XI when we've sold one mainstay XI starter and another six potential 1st XI starters. The answer has to be both."

@GebruLoga: "Stronger team to be honest...quality players and also good squad depth as well...come on Eddie...this year we will go one step ahead."

@Lucas60704238: "What was the outgoing players average age? 29 wasn’t it? I seen somewhere the average age on the transfers ins were 24. We’ve strengthen in a really balanced way. Considering the squad we got already. We’ve definitely improved."

@DavidMi32570254: "Gonna be challenging for the league and cups … mark my words."

@gazmo71: "Ceiling has dropped with losing the number 14, but the floor has been raised. Think we are one midfielder short with Ramsey being more of a Willock replacement, someone whose got a bit of guile, but overall the squad looks stronger."

@Paulie_Now: "It's the same 11 minus Isak - replaced with TWO strikers adding more goals between them - AND a better squad than last season. In no way could it be a weaker starting 11 imo."

@No10Rich: "Stronger XI we've got strikers who can play 90 minutes now."

@tman19721: "We’re stronger but we need to get back Amanda Staveley and her husband back when had them the back room staff n the running of the club was better."

@PaulHen68619519: "Stronger squad. No improvement to starting 11."

@ScottyTalksToon: "Squad much stronger. First XI? Subjective, but it's hard to improve on what we had, our issue was squad depth and we are much better equipped to mount a challenge on multiple fronts once everything clicks."

@abu685: "We were very fortunate with injuries last year (although much of that could have been down to James Bunce). We still have a great MF when one of our 3 MF have to drop out due to injuries/rotation. Wissa and Woltemade is a upgrade on Wilson and Isak in 24/25."

@CawthornPh8956: "On paper perhaps, however if you look at the graft or lack of it, from he who shall not be named, at the end of last season we are definitely stronger! 💪"
