Manchester United midfielder Manuel Ugarte has had a difficult start to the campaign.
The Uruguay international joined the Red Devils with a big reputation from Paris Saint-Germain, but has fallen out of favour this season.
The 24-year-old has managed less than 50 minutes off the bench in the Premier League under manager Ruben Amorim.
He started the shock Carabao Cup second round defeat at Grimsby Town, but was substituted at the half-time interval.
Ugarte has played second fiddle to Casemiro for the number six role and was an unused substitute against Burnley last weekend.
His woes have continued on international duty after being ignored by Amorim.
The former PSG star has often played as a defensive midfielder for Uruguay, with Rodrigo Bentancur and Federico Valverde ahead of him.
However, head coach Marcelo Bielsa had different plans in mind for the World Cup qualifier against Peru on Thursday night.
Bentancur and Valverde started in central midfield, while Giorgian de Arrascaeta was chosen to play in an advanced position.
De Arrascaeta scored Uruguay’s second goal in the 3-0 victory over Peru at the Estadio Centenario.
Ugarte only came on as a substitute in the 69th minute. He completed 92 percent of his passes, but did not win a single ground duel (0/2).
He lost possession on three occasions and was dribbled past once.
Ugarte is going through a tough phase at club level, but that has now translated to his country too. He does not appear a guaranteed starter under Bielsa.
Uruguay face Chile on the road in their next World Cup qualifier on September 9. It remains to be seen whether Ugarte will be reinstated into the first XI.
