Exclusive: Odegaard once called him a 'baller', but Arsenal are now considering sale of £20m star in January

TBR Football understands that Arsenal are planning to reassess the future of Leandro Trossard in January, despite just handing him a new contract.

Trossard signed a new Arsenal contract last month, which ended speculation over a move away in the summer transfer window.

The 30-year-old remains a valuable member of Mikel Arteta’s squad, and the Gunners opted to reward him by bumping up his wages.

But come January, the North London club could well be prepared to consider offers for the Belgian international following what was a busy summer for him.

Exclusive: ‘Lots of clubs asked about Leandro Trossard over the summer

Arsenal had several clubs asking about whether Leandro Trossard would be available for transfer during the summer window, sources have told TBR Football chief correspondent Graeme Bailey.

As TBR Football revealed, Inter Milan asked about Trossard after missing out on the signing of Ademola Lookman.

Napoli and Atalanta also enquired about Trossard, with plenty of clubs in Italy keen to sign the winger.

The Gunners opted against selling the player, but that could well change during the winter window, especially with Gabriel Jesus due back from injury.

Bailey told TBR Football: “Yeah, again, it was a smart deal by Arsenal to persuade him to stay. They gave him the wage bump, but I think he’s one who will be assessed in January. Do Arsenal need another winger by then? Gabriel Jesus will be back as well.

“So it’s one where they rewarded him almost for not going. They couldn’t just say, ‘You’re staying and that’s it.’ They said, ‘Okay, you’ve earned a wage rise, so we’re going to give it to you, and then we’ll assess the situation going forward.’ Does he stay until January, or until the summer?

“So I think that’s what’s coming to pass with Trossard – making sure they’re not short in squad numbers, but rewarding him in the same process. There were a lot of clubs asking about Trossard in the last week, especially.”

Leandro Trossard is highly rated at Arsenal

Trossard is highly rated at Arsenal, with Martin Odegaard having once labelled him as a ‘baller’ to ESPN

His stats were pretty impressive as well, as he hit double figures for both goals and assists in all competitions for the Gunners.

Arteta called Trossard a ‘magician’ after he came off the bench to score a crucial goal in his team’s 2-0 win over Wolves last season.

But with Arsenal keen to reinforce their left-sided options and Eberechi Eze now at the club, there might no longer be room for Trossard.
