Now she believes she deserves the sense of excitement and opportunity she currently feels about her new start with [Albion](https://www.theargus.co.uk/sport/albion/), who open their WSL season at home to Aston Villa on Sunday.
The centre-forward from Madrid was out for almost a year after rupturing knee ligaments playing for Spain under-19s.
Camacho, 20, comes from Orcasitas, which she describes as a humble area of the Spanish capital.
It is walking distance from the site of the Vicente Calderon, former home of Atletico, and she had some time in their junior set-up.
But the family are Real Madrid fans and that was where she broke into senior football.
"In my family, from when we are born, we are all Real Madrid," she told The Argus.
"I think my time growing there and being able to progress in the junior ranks at Real Madrid is something I will never forget.
"Thanks to all the people who have crossed my path, I am the person that I am.
"I only have words of thanks for Real Madrid.
_(Image: BHAFC/James Boardman)_ "All the values I have, apart from the fact my family have taught me – respect, humility, work and consistency – came from Real Madrid’s and it is important to be a good player on the pitch but also off it.
"These two years in the first team it was my privilege to share the pitch and changing room with players who I admire.
"Great players like Esther Gonzalez, Caroline Weir and I could name a lot, they are examples to follow.
"They have been my team-mates and friends and you learn a lot seeing how they are in every situation, especially when you are younger."
There could be similar influence from Fran Kirby with the Seagulls.
"I think Fran Kirby is the one who has most experience in the team and you notice that a lot. I think I will learn a lot.
"Me as a No.9 and her as a No.10, we will share context when we play together and it is fantastic to work with her and coincide in the same team."
Camacho was seen as part of the future of Madrid and Spain until injury struck.
She said: "The rupture of an ACL is an injury which happens a lot more than we would like, obviously.
"But I feel lucky because I was surrounded by an unequalled medical team when I had the injury.
"And I also feel proud of the work I did during so many months,
"This was key to me feeling good from the first day that I trained again with the team.
"I came back at a good level and I was the same player I was before injury.
"It was a very tough experience but I also remember it fondly because difficulty in life always teaches you something and makes you stronger."
Camacho was being interviewed in Spanish but says her English is "Good. Not bad" - and she said that in English.
She added: "I think I am adapting quite quickly.
"I had a base because at Real Madrid I spoke English with a lot of the girls and I always did it at school.
"It is always a case of leaving your comfort zone when you leave your country and have to learn a new language.
"I already speak English but to spend the whole day speaking it in all situations is part of adaptation.
"Also adapting to the team and the football they play in England."
So what was it about Albion that attracted her?
"I think it is a very ambitious team with clear targets
"I like the way they play and the way the coach has of understanding football and the values of the club.
"They are a team who like to have the ball.
"It is a place where I expect to grow a lot as a footballer.
"Tactically, they are very intelligent with and without the ball."
Camacho is not related to Jose Antonio, the former Real Madrid and Spain right-back and head coach of the same surname.
But she said: "My dad, Emilio, played in the youth teams at Real Madrid.
"My family are always the first ones there for me.
"Thanks to them, I am the person I am and I feel the support."
All of which sets her up for a new target - far from the Spanish capital.

In conversation, Camacho comes across as friendly, smiley, confident but with some clear goals about targets ahead.
"We want to be in the top four of the league.
"I think we can achieve that because we are a good group.
"There is talent and we can go for it.
"Individually, firstly it’s to enjoy it.
"I think after all the work behind me, I deserve to have an opportunity and experience like this.
"Get minutes and opportunities and help the team to the maximum, whether it is with assists or goals as a striker.
"This is always the mentality of a No.9."
