Anthony Elanga has spoken about his compatriot Alexander Isak’s move from Newcastle to Liverpool, brushing off the noise around it and making clear there’s no bad feeling. The summer on Tyneside was dominated by Isak. The striker refused to play or train, pushed for a move and eventually got his wish on deadline day, sealing a British-record switch to Liverpool for around £125m.
Unsurprisingly, some fans didn’t take it well, with chants aimed at him in August matches.
Elanga, who was signed from Nottingham Forest this summer, kept it respectful when asked about his compatriot. _“Isak is a Liverpool player right now. I have the chance to play with him in the national team. He had a good career at Newcastle, but right now he is a Liverpool player. Good luck to him.”_
He downplayed any sense of drama inside the squad. _“It has been chill. He had a contract with us and right now he is with Liverpool. We all think he is a very good player. We lost a good player but we also signed good players. Hopefully we can look forward and focus on this season.”_
On a personal note, Elanga was just as relaxed. _“It’s his choice. He chose Liverpool. Good luck to him. He is a friend to me and a fantastic footballer. I can play with him in the national team and that is good as well.”_
In short, the winger isn’t interested in reopening the saga. For him, it’s over. Newcastle lost a big player, but life moves on, and Elanga prefers to focus on the season ahead rather than the drama of the summer.
