Terms for Arsenal duo exits explained – Club paid ‘small sum’ for player, another could be ‘super bargain’

Albert Sambi Lokonga and Fábio Vieira both left Arsenal to join Hamburg SV on deadline day of the summer window.

The German club signed the attacking midfielder on loan while Lokonga left the Gunners on a permanent transfer.

Bild now cover the details of the terms that Hamburg agreed with Arsenal to sign the duo.

The Bundesliga newcomers’ bosses, led by their CFO Eric Huwer, have secured an ‘interesting agreement’ to carry out the signings in the recently concluded window. The report focuses on Vieira’s loan move and the 25-year-old Belgian’s permanent signing.

If the former FC Porto man were to feature regularly for Hamburg this season, the report explains they don’t even have to pay a loan fee to Arsenal.

There’s no mention of a figure, and Bild say Hamburg have high expectations of the 25-year-old Portuguese midfielder. The Arsenal arrival could end up being a ‘super bargain’.

The report states: ‘Vieira is expected to create and drive the attacking play from the right flank. The newly promoted side had huge deficits in terms of creativity in the first two match-days.’

Meanwhile, Lokonga has struggled to cement a place at Arsenal since joining them from Anderlecht in 2021. He was out on loan since January 2023 and had entered his final year of contract at the Emirates.

The Belgian midfielder was unable to find a club until the end of the window. Hamburg took advantage of this as Bild report they signed him for a ‘small sum’ of €300,000 plus bonuses.
