Manchester United have confirmed the Under-21s will play Tamworth in a rearranged fixture in December.

Last month, the U21s visited Tamworth for their opening National League Cup game, but the fixture was abandoned due to a head injury sustained by Sekou Kone in the first half.

Kone was taken to hospital and the fixture was abandoned with no replacement ambulance available. The midfielder stayed in hospital overnight but was discharged in the morning to recover at home.

Neither side had scored at the time of the abandonment. It's understood the fixture has been difficult to rearrange due to conflicting schedules, but an agreement has been reached to meet again on Tuesday, December 16.

The new date means United's opening group-stage game in the National League Cup will now be against Brackley on Tuesday, September 16.

Shortly after the fixture was abandoned, United released a statement saying: "Manchester United's game at Tamworth was abandoned close to the end of the first half.

"The tie was halted due to a head injury suffered by Reds midfielder Sekou Kone, inside his own box, and the youngster was taken off on a stretcher.

"We can confirm Sekou is conscious, stable and communicating with United’s medical team. He has been taken to hospital, as a precaution, for further checks.

"Everybody at the club wishes him a speedy recovery."

Kone was making his first competitive appearance of the season against Tamworth. Ruben Amorim named Kone in the USA pre-season tour squad this summer, but the youngster didn't make an appearance.

Amorim named Kone in three Premier League matchday squads last season - against Tottenham, Everton and Nottingham Forest - but the youngster is still waiting to make his senior debut.

Kone signed from Malian club Guidars FC for around £1million last summer.
