Rio Ferdinand is unhappy Jadon Sancho’s transfer to Aston Villa from Manchester United does not include an obligation to make the deal permanent.
Sancho moved to Villa Park on loan for the season on transfer deadline day, but there is no clause in the agreement over making the move permanent next summer.
Villa also signed Harvey Elliott on a season-long loan from Liverpool, but have agreed to an obligation to buy him for £35m conditional on appearances.
Sancho’s is a straight loan and he will return to Old Trafford at the end of the season.
And ex-United defender Ferdinand argues his former club should have cut their losses on Sancho this summer to avoid the prospect of him returning to the club next summer.
Speaking about the Sancho deal on his Rio Presents podcast, a surprised Ferdinand said: “Ain’t Sancho’s got an obligation to buy at the end of it? No. I don’t like that.
“I said this ages ago, if you’re going to take massive losses on these players, take them. Just to get them out.
“I don’t think you can think about the financials too much if you’re going to have them around the place and let them be a bad smell around the place. No, get rid. I don’t care.”
