Arsenal Women superstar pens bumper contract after record season

Arsenal women’s striker Alessia Russo has committed her future to the club by signing a new long-term contract.

The 26-year-old joined the North London side from Manchester United in the summer of 2023. Her first deal was set to expire in 2026.

Russo made an instant impact in her debut season, scoring 16 goals in 31 appearances across all competitions. She followed that with 20 goals in 41 games last campaign.

Her 12 goals in 21 league matches in the 2024/25 season secured the Barclays Women’s Super League Golden Boot. That form made her the first Arsenal forward in years to claim the prize.

She was also a driving force in the club’s successful run to the Women’s Champions League title in 2025, adding to the Conti Cup won in 2024.

Honours and international success

Russo’s consistency has earned her several individual honours. She was named the Football Writers’ Association Player of the Year and featured in the PFA and UEFA Champions League Teams of the Year.

She has also been shortlisted for the 2025 Ballon d’Or, highlighting her rise to the top of the women’s game.

On the international stage, Russo has played a major role for England. She helped the Lionesses win back-to-back European Championships in 2022 and 2025.

She was also part of the squad that reached the FIFA Women’s World Cup final in 2023.

Reflecting on her new contract, Russo said: “Arsenal feels like home, This is such a special club and it has felt that way to me from the moment I joined two years ago.”

She added: “Playing for Arsenal is an honour and has pushed me to develop and grow as a player, and I feel empowered with this badge on my chest.”

“I’m so proud of everything we’ve achieved together as a club, with our supporters driving us forward. But I’m still so hungry for more success, and I know that’s shared by everyone here at the club. I can’t wait to get started this season, starting with this Saturday at Emirates Stadium.”

Arsenal women begin their new WSL campaign this weekend when they host London City Lionesses at the Emirates.
