Anthony Elanga has spoken about Alexander Isak’s British record move from Newcastle United to Liverpool on deadline day.
After a long summer where his future looked incredibly unclear, Alexander Isak finally joined Liverpool on the final day of the transfer window.
The 25-year-old made it clear he wanted to leave Newcastle United, but his former club were still hopeful that he could come to his senses and stay on Tyneside for another season. Isak had already made up his mind, and Liverpool got the deal done for a British record fee of £125m.
Isak was a ‘complex character’ in the dressing room, but was not believed to be a bad influence while he was at the club. In the final days of the transfer window, it was clear that Newcastle’s hierarchy were not going to get Isak back onside and happy to play for the club he was contracted to, hence the drop in their asking price.
With the Sweden international getting the move he was so desperate for, Newcastle winger Anthony Elanga has shared how he feels about Isak’s move away.

Newcastle were able to sign two strikers ahead of Isak’s departure, with Nick Woltemade and Yoane Wissa joining late in the window.
The Magpies will hope the pair can provide the same number of goals as Isak did on Tyneside, and make their own history.
Elanga can help the new strikers with his ability to get in behind and his proven eye for an assist. Now, the 23-year-old has opened up on how he feels about his fellow national teammate’s move away.

“It’s his choice. He chose Liverpool. Good luck to him. He is a friend to me and a fantastic footballer. I can play with him in the national team and that is good as well.”
Newcastle United fans never got to see Anthony Elanga and Alexander Isak play together
Before Isak confirmed his intentions to leave Newcastle, there was a lot of excitement around what their front line would look like for the 2025/26 season.
Fans were excited to see Elanga and Isak play together regularly in the Premier League, with the pair having a natural chemistry for Sweden. However, fans may now never see them play together for any club.
Elanga cited Isak as a reason why he joined Newcastle, but he would have surely been shocked to see how the summer transfer saga played out.
The winger will now have to make new partnerships with Newcastle’s new arrivals, but it may not be a tough task, as Wissa and Woltemade have qualities that Elanga can benefit from.
There was a lot of change on Tyneside over the summer, so fans will have to wait and see what it means for their performances on the pitch.
