Watch Bruno Guimaraes’ goal and iconic celebration in Brazil’s World Cup qualifier win

Hours after Nick Woltemade started in a shock 2-0 defeat for Germany on Thursday night, Bruno Guimaraes was flying the flag for Newcastle as Brazil took on Chile in the early hours of Friday morning.

On a night where Miguel Almiron’s Paraguay secured their spot in the 2026 World Cup for the first time in 15 years, it was also a special night for our captain fantastic under new boss Carlo Ancelotti.

In an all-action man of the match display, Bruno’s 76th minute strike rounded off a 3-0 win after goals from Chelsea’s Estevao and West Ham star Lucas Paqueta.

Watch Bruno’s goal below, which were followed by iconic celebrations as the Toon skipper held up the corner flag to the South American crowd in the Rio de Jainero’s famous Maracanã stadium.

Globo Esporte, one of the major outlets in Brazil, gave Bruno an 8/10 in their post-match player ratings piece, describing him as the ‘driving force’ behind a dominant win:

“A textbook performance for a dynamic midfielder with a strong presence in the final third and a strong presence in the defensive midfield.

“He had a good first half but seemed subdued compared to his second-half performance. He tackled, built plays, set up teammates, and scored. He twice set up Martinelli in excellent position to finish, linked up with Luiz Henrique for the third, and was the team’s driving force.”

Next up for Bruno, a game away to Bolivia in the early hours of Wednesday morning before he returns for next weekend’s big game on Tyneside at home to Wolves.
