Wayne Rooney sends message to Thomas Tuchel about Everton’s Jack Grealish

The first international break of the 2025/26 campaign has already begun following back-to-back wins for Everton in the Premier League.

A number of Everton players have now jetted off to represent their nations over the coming days.

David Moyes will have a golden opportunity to take stock of the opening weeks of the season and work closely with the players left at Finch Farm.

On the back of the window, Moyes was delighted with Everton’s transfer business after signing players like Jack Grealish.

The 29-year-old has made a stunning start to the season on Merseyside.

Darren Bent thinks Grealish should be playing for England this week following his impressive start to life at the Hill Dickinson Stadium.

Now, former Everton striker Wayne Rooney has chimed in on the debate, with a clear message sent to Thomas Tuchel.

Just weeks after joining the Toffees, Grealish has already shown signs of returning to his best form, having provided more assists (4) than any other player in the league.

Speaking on The Wayne Rooney Show, the England legend has admitted Thomas Tuchel has to be looking at what Grealish is doing at Everton with excitement.

“England have got the players. They’ve got good enough players. I’d like to see some players back playing like Phil Foden because I think these are players who could have a real impact.

“And Grealish hopefully continuing his form and getting back in the squad,” said Rooney.

“These, I think, are players who can really impact what England do and they obviously just need to keep playing with their clubs.”

Grealish has now been nominated for Player of the Month following the opening three Premier League games of the season.

If he continues to play at this level, it would surely become impossible for Tuchel to look beyond the 29-year-old.

Thomas Tuchel admits he is watching Grealish at Everton

Roy Keane has backed Grealish to be a success at Everton, and the early stages of his time on Merseyside are showing just that.

Despite not starting the opener against Leeds United, the forward has hit the ground running with two assists in his two actual league starts.

Grealish has been keen to impress at Everton and the 29-year-old is showing an attitude that fans would have wished to see.

Speaking about a potential return to the England squad, Tuchel admitted he is keeping an eye on Grealish.

“There’s no doubt I am a big fan of Trent [Alexander-Arnold] and Jack [Grealish] of both their talent and personalities. They are big players, they will always be big players. And they will always be in the mix to be called up,” said Tuchel.

“I think they can have a bit more rhythm, I think Jack is starting to play again and he has a huge impact at Everton, which is nice to see.”
