England ace out of squad in huge blow to Thomas Tuchel before Andorra and Serbia

John Stones has left the England squad due to injury.

The Manchester City defender joined up with the Three Lions squad ahead of their World Cup qualifiers against Andorra and Serbia, but he will play no part in either game.

Thomas Tuchel called the 31-year-old defender up to his squad last week despite injury concerns.

Speaking ahead of England's qualifier against Andorra on Saturday, Tuchel confirmed that Stones would not feature after failing to overcome his fitness issue.

He said: "Unfortunately, John Stones [has] just left. He came with minor muscle issues in camp and he hasn’t progressed how we hoped.

"He came with minor muscle issues to camp and didn’t progress the way we thought and hoped he would.

"So he left camp this morning because we will not take the risk against Andorra and also, unfortunately, against Serbia.”

City also released a statement on Stones' withdrawal from the England squad, saying his exit is a precautionary measure.

Tuchel's options at centre-back are now narrowed to Marc Guehi, Dan Burn, Ezri Konsa and Jarell Quansah.

England face Andorra at Villa Park on Saturday before travelling to Belgrade to face Serbia on Tuesday.
