Arsenal Women have confirmed that England striker Alessia Russo has signed a new long-term contract with the club, providing a major boost ahead of the 2025/26 Women’s Super League (WSL) season.

The 26-year-old forward, who joined the Gunners from Manchester United in July 2023 on a free transfer, has become a pivotal figure for the North London side.

Since her arrival, Russo has scored 36 goals in 72 appearances across all competitions, helping Arsenal secure the 2024 League Cup and their second-ever UEFA Women’s Champions League crown in 2025.

Last season, she struck 12 goals in 21 WSL matches to claim a share of the Golden Boot with Manchester City’s Khadija Shaw, while netting eight times in 15 Champions League games, including a decisive brace against Real Madrid in the quarter-finals.

Her performances earned her the Football Writers’ Association Women’s Footballer of the Year award, spots in the PFA and UEFA Champions League Teams of the Year, and a nomination for the 2025 Ballon d’Or.

“Arsenal feels like home,” Russo said after signing the new deal. “This is such a special club, and it has felt that way to me from the moment I joined two years ago. Playing for Arsenal is an honour and has pushed me to develop and grow as a player. I’m so proud of everything we’ve achieved together, but I’m still hungry for more success.”

Head coach Renee Slegers praised Russo’s impact both on and off the pitch. “Alessia’s goals often take the spotlight, but she gives so much more to the team. She’s a selfless player who works incredibly hard and contributes massively to our culture. I’m delighted she has committed her future to Arsenal.”

The announcement comes just days before Arsenal kick off their WSL campaign against London City Lionesses at Emirates Stadium on Saturday. With her future secured, Russo is expected to lead the line as the Gunners look to mount a strong title challenge after finishing second last season.
