Leeds United are one of the clubs linked with a January interest in Manchester City youngster Nico O’Reilly, according to reports.
The Whites had a busy summer transfer window with Daniel Farke adding 10 new faces to his squad. The window did, however, end in disappointment with a deadline day deal for Fulham’s Harry Wilson falling through.
It means that Farke didn’t bring in the attacking signing he was after in the final days of the window. Leeds will hope that they have enough in their current squad to get them through until the January window.
And it seems that planning for when the window re-opens is already starting. According to CaughtOffside, Leeds, along with Lyon, Nottingham Forest, Brighton and Bayer Leverkusen are all showing an interest in Man City’s highly-rated midfielder Nico O’Reilly.
It was claimed last month that the 20-year-old has reached an agreement in principle with City over a new contract with the club. But that has not stopped talk over his future ahead of the January window.
O’Reilly broke into the Man City first team squad last season, making 18 first team appearances in all competitions, scoring five goals and providing two assists.
So far this season he has come on as a substitute in two of Man City’s three Premier League games, making appearances in the season opener against Wolves and last weekend’s 2-1 loss against Brighton anf Hove Albion.
Should he sign a new deal at the Etihad Stadium, the most likely option for Leeds and other teams interested in January is trying to persuade City to allow the player out on loan. If that will be possible is still to be seen, and could depend on City’s own incoming business in the window.
