Newcastle United were linked with signing Lucas Paqueta this summer
Bruno and Paqueta were previously teammates at Lyon, which is where they became such close friends.
Now they are opponents in the Premier League, and the only time they get to play alongside each other is in the yellow of Brazil.
However, Eddie Howe did consider trying to change that this summer. It was reported that Newcastle looked at signing Lucas Paqueta from West Ham, as they searched for midfield reinforcements.
A deal for the 28-year-old would have been incredibly well received on Tyneside. Toon fans have been dreaming of Paqueta joining Newcastle United for years, only for a transfer not to come to fruition.
That remained the case this summer. Newcastle bought Jacob Ramsey to strengthen their midfield, with the 24-year-old one of six senior signings to arrive at St James’ Park.
The biggest was Nick Woltemade, who became Newcastle’s most expensive signing ever at £69million.
