Lucas Digne’s next goal at Aston Villa is to win silverware, after committing his future to the club until 2028.

The 32-year-old had entered the final 12 months of his contract earlier this summer, but Villa moved quickly to offer him an extension, which he happily signed in August.

“I feel great! It's been several months since last year, where we've been talking a little bit. I wanted to take my time to think it through, but my priority has always been to extend my stay at Villa, because I feel great there,” Digne told 90min.

“The club continues to evolve and we have a great coach. My family also feels good in Birmingham. So everything was in place for me to extend the adventure.”

Digne - who joined Villa from Everton in January 2022 - has been one of the most consistent performers in the squad under Unai Emery over the past two years.

“Even today, he continues to help me progress,” the left-back said about Emery. “He's a coach who really focuses on video, tactical work, and what's happening on the pitch. He doesn't care about the player's age.

“It doesn't matter if you're 18 or 30, he'll want to work the same way, he'll try to give us as much advice as possible.

“When he arrived, he made me change my way of defending. I had to defend with a different profile than the one I was used to. I had to adapt, it took a little time because I had to change all my habits. He helped me a lot, and in the end, it works really well with him.”

Villa are targeting Europa League glory this season under Emery, who has won the competition four times - including three consecutive triumphs with Sevilla.

“We have the boss of the competition,” Digne continued. “Having a coach with a lot of experience like that in this competition is definitely an asset for us and we'll try to make the most of it.

“Aston Villa haven't won a trophy in 30 years. Winning something would be really great. We want to put the club back in its place. We've been doing really well for a few years now and we're improving. If we can bring a trophy to our fans, that would be great.”
