Aston Villa’s Leon Bailey joined AS Roma in the summer transfer on an initial loan deal with the option to buy.
The Jamaican received a warm welcome and reciprocated that enthusiasm on his arrival in Italy, but the early optimism faded away as the winger picked up a muscle injury in his very first training session with the club.
There was confusion regarding when he’d return, and the possibility of the Aston Villa player being out until October remains.
RomaForever report the 28-year-old is unlikely to play in the Rome derby later this month and the Giallorossi’s Europa League clash against Nice on the 24th of September will also be too early for him.
Even early October is starting to be written off, and Bailey may have to wait until after October’s international break.
Roma are exercising caution with his fitness, knowing that injuries have been a problem for him in recent years. His recovery will be monitored closely on a step-by-step basis as they don’t want to rush him back into action.
Last season, Bailey was troubled by multiple muscle injuries as he missed over 10 games for Aston Villa. AS Roma being cautious is understandable, but their patience surely won’t extend too long given the player is only on loan.
