Aston Villa Women is delighted to be teaming up with The International Working Group (IWG) on Women and Sport, with the IWG Global Summit 2026 logo displayed on our match shirts during the opening of the 2025/26 season.
The collaboration coincides with the ticket launch for the Summit on Tuesday, September 9th - with the Summit itself taking place in Birmingham from 9 – 11 July 2026 - while also demonstrating our commitment to supporting and contributing to the global women’s sport community.
Founded in Brighton in 1994, the IWG is the world’s largest network dedicated to advancing gender equity and equality in sport, physical education and physical activity. Every four years, IWG convenes a global summit, and the 2026 edition in Birmingham is set to be the foremost gathering of its kind, attracting 1,200 senior leaders, decision-makers and stakeholders from across the globe to exchange best practices, share ground-breaking research and shape the future of gender equity in sport.
Maggie Murphy, Managing Director of AVWFC, said: ““Aston Villa Women is proud to support the Global Summit on Women and Sport, the world’s largest gathering of leaders in women’s sport.
“Our partnership is a powerful statement of our shared commitment to continue to create better sporting opportunities for women and girls worldwide, and at every level.
“We are especially proud that our home city of Birmingham will be the stage for this landmark event, showcasing the city’s leadership and passion for championing women’s sport.””
Lisa O’Keefe MBE, Secretary General of IWG, said: “We are absolutely delighted to have the support of Aston Villa Women for the IWG Global Summit 2026, and I would like to extend my thanks to the team for the fantastic opportunity of having the logo displayed on the kit.
“It’s really fitting that Aston Villa Women’s first game of the season is against Brighton & Hove Albion Women, with Brighton being the home of the first ever IWG Global Summit over 30 years ago. I’m really looking forward to the game and to the start of the Women’s Super League season.
“It’s clear that like us, Aston Villa Women has a real passion for creating and promoting opportunities for women and girls. I’m really looking forward to developing our relationship and supporting each other as we build towards the Summit next year.”
