'Difficult moment': Ederson reveals what he told Pep Guardiola right before leaving Manchester…

Ederson’s eight-year spell at Manchester City came to an end this week.

After moving to Manchester from Benfica in 2017, the Brazilian goalkeeper has decided to start a new chapter in his career in Turkey with Fenerbahce, with Gianluigi Donnarumma moving to Man City on deadline day to fill the space left by the 32-year-old.

Ederson was the perfect fit for Man City during the Pep Guardiola era, and leaves the Manchester club as the goalkeeper with the most Premier League titles in English football history, while also changing the game for shot-stoppers due to his ability with the ball at his feet.

Saying goodbye to City would have been very difficult for the Brazil international, and Ederson has now revealed the last words he said to Guardiola before departing the Etihad Stadium.

Ederson told Pep Guardiola he will return to Man City

Alisson Becker thinks Ederson is one of the best goalkeepers English football has ever seen, and following the 32-year-old at Man City will not be easy for Donnarumma.

The success the Brazilian had under Guardiola is phenomenal, and after everything they achieved together in Manchester, Ederson told the legendary coach that he would be back to say goodbye to him and the fans properly in the future.

“I didn’t have time to speak to them because it’s too quick, you know, the process to move to Fenerbahçe, and I said only bye to some players, some people for the staff, and I spoke to Pep on the phone,” Ederson told Man City’s YouTube channel about his exit.

“I said to him, ‘I’ll be back to say goodbye properly to everyone’. He said, ‘Of course, of course’, because eight years, a lot of moments, winning a lot of trophies, and I passed a difficult moment.

“But every time we stay together. For me, for him, for the club, it’s so important that I’m back to say goodbye to everyone.”

Ederson will always be welcomed back at the Etihad Stadium after all he has done for the Manchester club, especially for the role he played in their historic treble-winning season.

Ederson names his best season at Manchester City

Ederson also named the 2022/23 season as his best season at Man City, with the Brazilian being very proud of the role he played in bringing the treble back to the Etihad Stadium.

“For sure, it was the best season. I mean, the treble, only two teams have won the treble. [Man] United and [Man] City, two teams made history. I’m in the history, the team is staying in history, that’s it,” the goalkeeper said.

Ederson played 48 games for Man City during the 2022/23 campaign, keeping 19 clean sheets and conceding 39 goals.

The moment of the season for the 32-year-old will undoubtedly be his late save in the Champions League final after Romelu Lukaku headed the ball towards his goal, which is one Man City fans will remember forever.
