‘Said no’: PL star breaks silence after David Moyes wanted him at Everton

Tomas Soucek was a big name in Everton’s transfer window, but a deal never came to fruition, and the midfielder has spoken out.

David Moyes landed most of his targets this summer, but Soucek feels like one that got away from Everton.

The West Ham midfielder had an excellent connection with the Scotsman during their tenure in East London, and he might have been looking to replicate that on Merseyside.

Everton offered £14.7 million for Soucek, which was rejected by the Irons, with the 30-year-old’s future left uncertain.

But the player himself has spoken out on the potential move, making one thing very clear.

Tomas Soucek says he rejected West Ham for Everton because of his ‘stable position’

The Czech Republic international has been with the Hammers for seven seasons, being brought to England by Moyes himself, so you can see how it was a hard position for him.

But now Soucek has had the opportunity to speak out in an interview with Czech outlet, Ceske Noviny.

“There was interest,” Soucek said of the Everton transfer saga.

“It was in the media, it was also felt at the club, But West Ham and I said no, because I feel the strength of West Ham.

“I feel [I am in] a stable position there that is recognised.

“So, I look forward to further cooperation at West Ham.”

Moyes would have loved a reunion, but the midfielder clearly felt his status under Graham Potter was too good to leave behind.

Everton fans didn’t want Soucek, and it might be the fanbase who have benefited after the midfielder’s start to this season.

In the end, it was Merlin Rohl who came in for the Blues as the midfield option, and fans have been impressed with Rohl thus far.

This decision might actually prove to be correct, as not only are Everton sticking to signing younger players, but Soucek has been out of sorts so far this campaign.

West Ham have been out of sorts as well, with the 30-year-old potentially going to regret the choice to reject Moyes.

It was a bold move for the Czech star to turn down the Toffees’ approach, especially with the exciting plans ahead, but it could work out fine for Everton.
