The Whites’ away form this season has been a bit worrying. A 5-0 drubbing at the hands of Arsenal, and a shock exit from the EFL Cup at the hands of Sheffield Wednesday were very unexpected. But Leeds learnt some key things from these two games; the biggest lesson learnt is that the team have to take their chances. They were punished against Arsenal, and only went to penalties against the Owls because they missed many chances at the end.

Karl Darlow, Joe Rodon, Dan James, Ilia Gruev, Jaka Bijol, Gabriel Gudmundsson and Isaac Schmidt were the first team players called up during the break. Youth players Jayden Lienou and Rory Mahady were also called up for their respective sides.

There was good news for the club as Rodon pulled out of international duty due to a concussion. Gabriel Gudmundsson also recovered from a knock and could play for Sweden on Friday.

Ilia Gruev played 90 minutes for Bulgaria as they lost 3-0 to Spain. Mikel Oyarzabal, Marc Cucurella, and Mikel Merino were on the score sheet as the game was decided in the first half. Around the 60th minute, Spain’s Lamine Yamal was bundled over in the box by Gruev, with the Leeds star’s knee catching the youngster. This sparked a little back and forth between the two as they were separated.

Gruev cleared the air post-match

Like the professional he is, the midfielder downplayed the situation after the game. He rather focused on the result, and how his team could do better in the next game:

“We did not react well after the goals. We must continue to fight. We have a very difficult and important match ahead of us against Georgia. I do not think it is a tragedy to lose 0:3 to Spain. We have better chances than against Spain.” he told Sportal.bg.

“Today we saw the class of Yamal. The whole world has problems defending against them. There is nothing to worry about.”
