It’s been a mixed start to the international break for the small pool of Newcastle players who’ve been in action so far.
Nick Woltemade played 90 minutes for Germany on Thursday night, but got such poor service and struggled to get into the game as his nation suffered a shock 2-0 defeat to Slovakia.
Bruno Guimaraes, however, enjoyed a much more successful World Cup qualifier in the early hours of Friday morning, scoring in a standout display for Brazil, who saw off Chile 3-0.
Then to Yoane Wissa, who has been playing in South Sudan this afternoon, starting alongside former Mag Chancel Mbemba in DR Congo’s World Cup qualifier.
Like Bruno, he scored in a convincing win, with DR Congo hammering South Sudan 4-1 as Wissa rounded off the scoring with a clinical one-vs-one finish after setting up his side’s third goal. Watch it below, followed by his brilliant celebration!

The 29-year-old was then taken off just after the hour mark, keeping him fresh for Tuesday’s home clash with Senegal.
Wissa arrives fresh off 19 goals in the Premier League last season, equalling the number of non-penalty goals a certain Alexander Isak managed over the 2024/25 campaign.
With Nick Woltemade at his best dropping short, bringing others into play and gettin the ball to feet, Wissa’s ability to be that fox in the box and make runs in behind could see them become a perfect pairing up top!
