Emi Martinez has confirmed he will be staying at Aston Villa.
Although the transfer window for most European clubs closed earlier this week, the Turkish and Saudi Arabian windows remain open.
Super Lig giants Galatasaray are reportedly interested in Martinez, but the Argentina number one has no desire to join them - or move to Saudi Arabia.
Manchester United had shown interest in signing Martinez during the final 48 hours of the summer window, but ultimately opted to pursue Senne Lammens instead.
After Royal Antwerp accepted United’s offer, the Belgian goalkeeper flew into Manchester to complete the move before Monday’s 7 p.m. deadline.
Martinez was left out of Villa’s squad for the Premier League clash against Crystal Palace on Sunday evening, as manager Unai Emery felt he wasn’t in the right frame of mind to play.
Open to leaving Villa over the summer, Martinez now remains in Emery’s squad - but is currently away on international duty, representing Argentina in World Cup qualifiers in South America.
Following Argentina’s 3–0 win over Venezuela in Buenos Aires - where winter is just coming to an end - a journalist managed to get a few words out of the goalkeeper.
The first question was about the chilly weather, as Martinez had little to do during the match.
“Not as much as in Birmingham!” the 'keeper laughed when asked about how cold it was, before being quizzed whether he now planned to stay in Birmingham.
“Yes, yes - perfect,” Martinez replied.
