Nottingham Forest man provides encouraging injury update

Nottingham Forest midfielder Nicolas Dominguez appears to be making progress in his recovery from injury.

The Argentine has been absent since May after sustaining a knee injury during the Reds’ defeat to Chelsea on the final day of last season. He underwent surgery in the summer and is yet to be involved for Nuno Espirito Santo’s side this term.

However, Dominguez has been included in Forest’s squad for the league phase of the Europa League. And it appears his recovery is going well.

Dominguez posted a picture to Instagram showing him wearing his football boots. He included emojis of a football, an egg timer and a flexing muscle. Another photograph showed the midfielder in his training gear and apparently walking out onto the grass.

Dominguez was forced off in the second half of Forest’s 1-0 loss at home to the Blues on May 25. Following a challenge by Noni Madueke, the 27-year-old received treatment on the pitch before being supported by medical staff as he limped off.

He had been due to link up with his national team for two World Cup qualifiers in June but was ruled out as he faced a spell on the sidelines. Reports from his homeland suggested he could be out of action for ‘at least four months’ due to a ‘serious meniscus injury in his left leg’.

In Dominguez’s absence, Nuno has plumped for the midfield partnership of Ibrahim Sangare and Elliot Anderson for the Reds’ opening three games of the campaign. Summer signing Douglas Luiz is yet to make his debut, following his loan move from Juventus.

Forest’s Europa League squad was announced earlier this week. Summer signings Omari Hutchinson, Oleksandr Zinchenko, Angus Gunn, Jair Cunha and Cuiabano were all omitted - although the latter has since returned to former club Botafogo on loan.
