Ex-Penn State star, Eagles Super Bowl champ will have his high school jersey retired

The Philadelphia Eagles got their 2025 season off on a good foot, defeating their division rival Dallas Cowboys, 24-20, in Thursday’s season opener.

Nazareth High School (Pa.) product and former Penn State star Jahan Dotson had a nice night, too, pulling down three catches for 59 yards. His 51-yard reception was the longest in the game.

Dotson has more good news heading his way this fall.

Nazareth announced it will retire his No. 5 jersey from high school during halftime of its Oct. 10 game against Bethlehem Catholic.

Dotson, the No. 16 overall pick in the 2022 NFL Draft of the Washington Commanders, had two solid campaigns to start his career with 500-plus receiving yards apiece. He fell out of favor on Washington’s depth chart ahead of the 2024 season, prompting a trade to the Eagles.

While his regular-season numbers weren’t excellent behind stars A.J. Brown and DeVonta Smith with 216 yards and no scores, he made an important 27-yard grab in the 2025 Super Bowl to set up the game’s first score. Now, he can forever call himself a Super Bowl champion.

Dotson spent 2018-2021 with the Nittany Lions and peppered the program record books along the way. As a receiver, he finished fourth in career yards (2,757), tied-second in career touchdowns (25) and second in career receptions (183). He holds the single-game record with 242 yards vs Maryland in 2021 and is one of just seven Lions pass catchers to ever pass the 1,000-yard mark in a season.

A third-team All-American and frequent All-Big Ten honoree, Dotson also ended his PSU time as the career (17.8) and season (24.8) leader in average punt return yardage.

Dotson graduated from Nazareth in 2018 and joined Penn State as a four-star prospect, a top-40 receiver in his class.
