Man Utd to roll out powerful'plan'around fan-favourite star after denying Old Trafford exit, one outcome is backed

Manchester United are holding a hardline stance on Kobbie Mainoo after the England international remained at Old Trafford for the 2025-26 campaign.

Kobbie Mainoo stunned Manchester United fans last month after the 20-year-old Stockport-born player asked to leave the Premier League club in the summer.

It is believed that the United midfielder wanted a loan move for the 2025-26 Premier League season and still saw Old Trafford as part of his long-term plans.

Mainoo’s request to leave United in the summer transfer market was denied, despite interest from Premier League sides like Tottenham, Aston Villa and Everton.

The uncertainty around Mainoo’s future at United also sparked interest from European clubs, with Marseille, Napoli and Roma all linked with the England star.

Man Utd’s feelings on England star Kobbie Mainoo after turning down his request over a loan transfer

Kobbie Mainoo has struggled at Manchester United under Ruben Amorim and has fallen down the pecking order under the Portuguese coach in the 2025-26 season.

United manager Amorim has opted mainly for a two-man midfield pivot of Casemiro and captain Bruno Fernandes, who has now dropped into a deeper role this season.

Mainoo has been left out of the England team for the September international break and the United star wanted his loan move away to secure first-team opportunities.

The United youth academy product is reportedly keen not to be left out of the plans of England manager Thomas Tuchel for the 2026 World Cup in North America.

TEAMtalk now reports that United have locked in a ‘plan’ for the Stockport-born talent after refusing to let him leave the Premier League club in the summer.

According to the publication, the Red Devils ‘remain confident’ that Mainoo will be afforded his ‘chances’ to play for the club as the new campaign ‘progresses.’

What Man Utd want to see from Kobbie Mainoo as part of their plans for the Red Devils talent at Old Trafford

TEAMtalk added that Red Devils boss Amorim will provide ‘opportunities’ for Three Lions and England midfielder Mainoo during the 2025-26 Premier League season.

It is added that Mainoo has ‘agreed’ to show his commitment to United by doing two things, with the midfielder to ‘knuckle down and work hard’ at the club.

Mainoo is now seen as a challenger for Bruno Fernandes in the United starting XI and the England international will need to ‘compete’ with him in the campaign.

The Three Lions star is under contract with United until 2027 and has made two appearances across all competitions for the club in the current season.
