Marquise Brown is expected to suit up for the Chiefs in Week 1 against the Chargers
It’s been a long offseason for the Kansas City Chiefs after they suffered a humiliating 40-22 defeat in Super Bowl LIX the last time we saw them on the field. The revenge tour is set to get underway on Friday night, though, as the Chiefs will open the 2025 campaign in Sao Paulo, Brazil, with a divisional matchup against the Los Angeles Chargers.
After getting hit hard by injuries from the get-go last season, Kansas City is entering the new campaign with a clean bill of health. That includes veteran wide receiver Marquise Brown, who received an encouraging injury update as the Chiefs prepare to take on the Chargers in their season-opener.
Marquise Brown Good to Go for Chiefs in Week 1
Brown signed a one-year contract with the Chiefs in free agency back in 2024, but he ended up missing the first 15 weeks of the season after he suffered a sternoclavicular injury during the preseason. When he returned to the field, Brown immediately provided a boost to K.C.’s weak wide receiver room, but it wasn’t enough for them to get past Philly in the Super Bowl.
With the 2024 season largely being a wash for Brown, he opted to run it back and re-sign with Kansas City over the offseason. The hope was that Brown could stay healthy in 2025, but throughout the summer, he battled an ankle injury that threw his status for Week 1 up in the air, which is precisely what the team did not want to see.
Brown has been trending in the right direction throughout the week, which is a big development since Rashee Rice has been suspended for the first six games of the season. Sure enough, Brown was removed from the Chiefs’ injury report ahead of Friday, indicating he will be on the field against the Chargers on Friday night.
“Wide receiver Hollywood Brown officially off the injury report and is going to play tonight against the Chargers,” Tom Pelissero said on “Good Morning Football.” “He’s been ramping up over the past couple of weeks here, and when I asked exactly what his role might be tonight, I was told specifically, ‘Hollywood is full go.'”
Chiefs Looking for Marquise Brown to Make Immediate Impact in Week 1

When he’s healthy, Brown has the ability to be a key playmaker who can open things up for the Chiefs’ offense. While he’s struggled over the past couple of years, Brown isn’t far removed from catching 91 passes for 1,008 yards and six touchdowns in 2021 with the Baltimore Ravens. If he can come anywhere close to that sort of production in 2025, Kansas City will surely be thrilled.
With Xavier Worthy leading the way at wide receiver, and guys like Travis Kelce, Isiah Pacheco, and JuJu Smith-Schuster also factoring into the mix, the Chiefs offense is in a good spot heading into their season-opener. Kickoff for this contest is scheduled for 8 p.m. ET, and Kansas City will be looking to start the new year off on the right foot and get the bad taste of its Super Bowl loss out of its mouth.
