Arsenal midfielder Fábio Vieira has insisted he didn’t think twice about HSV Hamburg on deadline day, having been quickly convinced by the offer.
MOPO cover comments from the midfielder today after he departed Arsenal once again at the end of the window.
The 25-year-old does not appear to be a part of Arsenal’s long-term plans after another summer of big spending added competition for places in Arsenal’s squad.
The addition of the likes of Martin Zubimendi and Eberechi Eze meant Vieira was unlikely to be featuring regularly this season and so he’s been shipped out once again.
The midfielder spent last season on loan with Porto and now finds himself at Hamburg, with the loan deal including an option for them to make it permanent. He arrived at the German club as part of a double deal with Arsenal that also saw Albert Sambi Lokonga join the Bundesliga side.
The move was certainly an eyebrow raising one, given Vieira cost Arsenal €35m in 2022, but the midfielder insists that he didn’t think twice about the move after early conversations with the management.
“It was a difficult time, of course, but we’re all professionals, we’re used to it,” he said about the uncertainty on deadline day.
“It happened very quickly. I was convinced after the first conversation with the coach and the sporting director. I immediately had the feeling they wanted me here.”
