Chelsea forward João Pedro had a curious moment during Brazil’s 3-0 win over Chile at the Maracanã, when he suddenly threw up on the pitch in the first half.
The incident followed a heavy collision with Arsenal winger Gabriel Martinelli, and while it raised some concern, the striker quickly got back to his feet and carried on.
After the match, João Pedro was relaxed as he explained the scene, as local outlet [**Globo Esporte**](https://ge.globo.com/futebol/selecao-brasileira/noticia/2025/09/05/joao-pedro-explica-vomito-em-campo-apos-choque-com-martinelli-me-senti-um-pouco-mal.ghtml?utm_source=Twitter&utm_medium=Social&utm_content=Esporte&utm_campaign=globoEsporte) reported. _“I was chasing the ball, running to try and get there. When I looked up, Martinelli was right in front of me. We ended up colliding, he hit my stomach, and I felt a bit unwell. But I was fine afterwards,”_ he said.
The 22-year-old is enjoying a strong spell at Chelsea, particularly since the Club World Cup, and he underlined how Carlo Ancelotti has asked for plenty of movement in attack. That was on display in Brazil’s opening goal, when João Pedro linked up with Martinelli and opened the gap for Raphinha to finish.
Still, he admitted there was one thing missing. _“I’m very happy to represent good football at Chelsea and to be back with the national team. I think every kid dreams of being here, and today I started the match. I missed the goal, but that happens. What matters is the victory,”_ he said.
He also brushed off suggestions of a direct battle with Richarlison for the centre-forward spot. _“My competition is with the players who are not representing the national team,”_ he insisted.
By the end, João Pedro was smiling again, proud of both the result and the team’s control. _“We saw the result, 3-0. We didn’t concede in front of our fans. I think we’re getting back to being the Brazil everyone expects,”_ he concluded.
The unusual first-half scare will likely be forgotten quickly, with the striker making it clear he’s comfortable and focused on keeping his good run going for both club and country.
